Directions: Use the following questions and resources to learn more about your individual. Take careful notes; you may not simply cut and paste from the Internet into your notes. Keep careful track of your sources for your Works Cited. Based on your research, you will create a profile of your individual to share with the class. This profile should provide basic background information on your individual and provide an overview of his/her stance on our main questions: where is the U.S. headed from here? what are the primary issues/concerns facing our nation? how would deal with these issues and concerns?

Questions to consider as you do your research;
  • How did the Civil Rights Movement change between 1965 and 1968? What new challenges presented themselves after the passage of the voting rights act? Make sure you take a look at the issue of rioting in northern cities that occurred during the summers of 1965, 1966, and 1967.
  • What was the Poor People's March that King helped to lead in 1968? What were his goals? His strategies?
  • How do MLK's vision for the future compare to/contrast with the views of the Black Panther? The Black Power movement?
  • How does the Vietnam War have an impact on MLK's views on race and equality in America?
